Security & Architectures Biometric Identity Management: Analysis and development of software and hardware prototypes of unimodal and multimodal biometric recognition systems. The investigated issue is related to the management of biometric information and its processing, by developing software and hardware prototypes, in order to increase the robustness of authentication systems for access to centralized and/or distributed environments. For the hardware prototypes development, programmable logic devices, such as Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGAs), are an excellent solution for fast prototypes designing capable of delivering high computational performance for use in different application domains, scientific and industrial, as in systems with redundancy for critical environments. Bio-Inspired Methodology Application: Analysis and development of software prototypes based on survival techniques and cell mutation methodologies. The investigated issue is focused on the characteristic that many heterogeneous real systems can be represented and described in terms of Complex Networks. In nature there are many systems that can be represented by complex networks, such as metabolic networks. They are an example of very flexible and redundant complex networks that, for this reason, can easily adapt to both environmental and genetic mutations. The metabolic networks of an organism summarize all the biochemical reactions that allow cell survival. Starting from this biological assumption, the goal is to advance the development of software prototypes based on survival techniques and metabolic mutation techniques in the field of digital eco-systems with different topological structures.

Sicurezza e Architetture Gestione dell’Identità Biometrica: Analisi e Sviluppo di prototipi software e hardware di sistemi di riconoscimento biometrici unimodali e multimodali. La tematica che si vuole investigare e portare avanti è legata alla gestione delle informazioni biometriche ed al loro trattamento al fine di incrementare la robustezza dei sistemi di autenticazione per l’accesso in ambienti centralizzati e/o distribuiti sviluppando prototipi software e hardware. Nell’ambito dello sviluppo di prototipi hardware i dispositivi logici programmabili, come ad esempio gli FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), rappresentano un’ottima soluzione per realizzare velocemente prototipi capaci di fornire elevate prestazioni computazionali che trovano impiego in diversi domini applicativi, sia in campo scientifico che industriale, come ad esempio nei sistemi con ridondanza per ambienti critici. Applicazione di Metodologie provenienti dalla Biologia: Analisi e sviluppo di prototipi software funzionanti tramite metodologie basate sulle tecniche di sopravvivenza e mutazione delle cellule. La tematica che si vuole investigare e portare avanti è incentrata sulla caratteristica che numerosi sistemi reali, anche molto eterogenei tra loro, possono essere rappresentati e descritti in termini di Reti Complesse. In natura esistono molteplici sistemi che possono essere rappresentati tramite reti complesse, come ad esempio le reti metaboliche. Esse sono un esempio di reti complesse molto flessibili e ridondanti che, per tale ragione, possono adattarsi facilmente sia a mutazioni ambientali che genetiche. Le reti metaboliche di un organismo riassumono tutte le reazioni biochimiche che permettono la sopravvivenza cellulare. Partendo da questo assunto biologico, si vuole portare avanti lo sviluppo di prototipi software basati sulle tecniche di sopravvivenza e mutazione delle reti metaboliche in ambito di eco-sistemi digitali con differenti strutture topologiche.
