Short Bio

  • Dr. Mario Collotta is Assistant Professor with tenure in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the Kore University of Enna. He is scientific responsible of Computer Engineering and Networks Laboratory and Chair (Presidente del Consiglio di Corso di Studio) of the BD Course in Computer Science and Telecomunications Engineering of Kore University of Enna.
  • He received the M.D. in Telecommunications Engineering in 2007 summa cum laude from Kore University of Enna and the PhD degree in Computer Engineering and Telecommunications in 2011 from the University of Catania.
  • Pubblications: He published several technical papers on peer-reviewed international conferences, books and journals (http://orcid.org/0000-0003-0207-9966) in the area of real-time systems and networks.  He has served several number of committees of distinguished international conferences in the area of factory communication, industrial embedded systems and real-time systems.   • Fields of research: His research interests include wireless networks and sensor networks, factory communication, distributed process control, real-time systems, energy-aware protocols and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems).

Research Activity

The activity of Dr. Collotta is mainly focused on the study of control applications in real-time systems. His interests concern the realization of strategies and innovative algorithms in order to ensure a flexible management of resources in real-time systems and networks.
The flexibility refers to the ability of the system to dynamically adapt to changes in its operating conditions, without reconfiguration need.
The main aim of Dr Collotta is to define flexible resource allocation policies (in terms of CPU time or bandwidth, depending on the context) and to achieve a good compromise between the respect of time constraints (timeliness) and efficiency, accepting, where possible, a limited performance degradation in environments characterized by soft real-time activities. Many case studies, in several application fields, have been (and are today yet) investigated including embedded systems and wireless communication in order to support and improve the performances in real-time networks.
Dr. Collotta has participated and participates to several national and international research projects in the field of Real-Time Systems and Real-Time Wireless Networks.

Il docente ha utilizzato in aula le slide preparate dagli autori del Libro, che non possono essere fornite, tuttavia di seguito sono elencati i capitoli trattati:
- Capitoli dal 4° al 14°
- Capitoli 16° e 17°
- Capitolo 21°

Modalità di Esame 
L’accertamento delle competenze avverrà attraverso un'unica prova orale che verterà :

  • sulla discussione di un esercizio da svolgere al calcolatore in laboratorio, in un tempo massimo di circa 90 minuti, sugli argomenti affrontati ad eccezione di quelli trattati nel capitolo 21 del libro di testo;
  • sulla discussione di un elaborato (preparato a casa a scelta dello studente) che implementi un’applicazione in linguaggio C che utilizza alcune delle strutture dati studiate (capitolo 21 del libro testo). E' possibile trarre spunto dagli esercizi al calcolatore pubblicati nella sezione documenti;
  • sulla discussione di un approfondimento su alcune delle tematiche affrontate durante il corso.

Nella sezione "Documenti" sono disponibili tutte le slide su tutti gli argomenti del corso, inoltre è possibile scaricare le esercitazioni e gli esempi di prova al calcolatore. 

Modalità di accertamento delle competenze
L’accertamento delle competenze avverrà attraverso un'unica prova orale che verterà:
  • sulla discussione di due esercizi da svolgere al calcolatore in laboratorio in un tempo massimo di circa 90 minuti sui Processi e Thread UNIX;
  • sulla discussione di un elaborato (preparato a casa a scelta dello studente) che implementi in linguaggio C un’applicazione distribuita Client/Server. E' possibile trarre spunto dall'esempio discusso in aula, (vedi slide pubblicate nella sezione "Documenti");
  • sulla discussione di un approfondimento su alcune delle tematiche affrontate durante il corso.

NOTA esempi applicazioni Client/Server
Per eseguire gli esempi su client/server mostrati a lezione è necessario passare un parametro in ingresso al client (argc e argv).
Nello specifico, il server può essere mandato in esecuzione con la solita sintassi (./server), mentre il client necessita dell'indirizzo di localhost sul quale è in esecuzione il server (./client 127.0.0.1).

Modalità di accertamento delle competenze

L’accertamento delle competenze avverrà attraverso una prova scritta. Durante la prova, lo studente dovrà risolvere alcuni problemi inerenti gli argomenti del corso. La prova dura al massimo 1h. I fogli per l’esecuzione della prova saranno forniti dal docente. Il docente, indicativamente entro 1 giorno, pubblicherà gli esiti della prova.

Modalità di accertamento delle competenze

L’accertamento delle competenze avverrà attraverso un'unica prova orale che verterà :

  • sulla discussione di un esercizio da svolgere al calcolatore in laboratorio, utilizzando Open Office Calc in un tempo massimo di circa 30 minuti, sugli argomenti affrontati inerenti i fogli di calcolo;
  • sulla discussione di un elaborato (preparato a casa e a scelta dello studente) che mostri la realizzazione di una presentazione multimediale in Open Office Impress;
  • sulla discussione di un approfondimento su alcune delle tematiche affrontate durante il corso.
